EGAN Advantages

EGAN functionality is comparable to a number of different software programs, from free-academic to enterprise-commercial. Here is a short list of what makes EGAN stand apart from the rest:

  • EGAN is free for use in academic research
  • EGAN is built for use by bench biologists, not programmers (but even programmers will find it saves time and effort). Read more at Leverage Organic Intelligence
  • All EGAN functionality is presented via a consistent and streamlined user interface; there are no differentially supported and documented plugins
  • EGAN can perform both GSEA-like (K/S) and DAVID-like (hypergeometric) enrichment statistics
  • EGAN can be used to perform network module discovery, including genes that may not have been significant or even present in the experiment
  • EGAN provides hypergraph visualization, showing how enriched gene sets/pathways connect significant genes from an experiment along with standard protein-protein and literature co-occurrence information
  • The EGAN hypergraph can be used as an enhanced Venn Diagram showing which genes are unique to and which are shared between multiple experimentally-derived gene lists
  • The EGAN client interface is entirely separate from its data model. Almost all information can be customized and/or supplemented by the end user. For example, all gene sets available for GSEA can be loaded into EGAN
  • Proprietary experiment results (and all other custom data) can be loaded into the EGAN client and will never be transmitted to a foreign server
  • The EGAN client can be launched as a module in a pipeline analysis program. We already provide EGAN as a GenePattern module
  • EGAN functionality can be scripted for fully-automated analysis
